Time to Re-Order

So being someone who had struggled with finding the right ostomy supplies, I think its time for me to do a product review. Trying to find what works for you can prove to be difficult. Not all products will work for you. I will be giving a review on my experience dealing with Coloplast, Convtec, and Hollister supplies along with a few products from smaller vendors.
When I came home from the hospital, the ostomy nurse said I'd have to play around with products before I found one I liked. I thought she was kidding because to me any bag was going to suck, but Ive finally found my forever bag and he's the one for me. P.s. I order all my products through Edgepark and my insurance covers all my supplies. My stoma measures 1 and 1/3
Convatec: rate: 3/5 stars
For the 2 peace ostomy ststem I used
Base: Green Esteem synergy stomahesive cut to fit skin barriers order number: 405457 with
Bag: 12" Esteeme synergy drainable pouch with invisiclose tail closure system and filter order number:416799
A two piece system means you can detatch the bag from the base. A drainable bag means you can empty it without throwing the bag away. A tail closure system means you seal the end with a clamp. A cut to fit barrier means you cut the opening of the barrier to fit over your stoma. Esteeme synergy is the specific title of the system you are using. Green stands for the size of the face plate or base. Light blue fits up to 1 3/8 stoma, green fits up to 1 7/8, yellow up to 2 3/8, and peach up to 3 1/2 in stoma.
Overall this is a good starter bag. Having to close the bottom with a clamp can be annoying and messy at times. Keep in mind you want a beige or opaque bag. That way you dont have to see all the goodies inside all the time. Also bags with filters can be annoying too. If you have a loose output the filters can leak and they stop working all together when they hit any moisture. Best to order no filter bags.
Next was a convatec 12" esteem one piece drainable pouch with moldable technology. Order number: 413518
A one piece drainable pouch means the bag sticks directly to you and has a drainable bottom.
This was pretty close to the bag I had in the hospital. Also a good one piece starter bag. A one piece is not my first choice for gassy people. If you let too much air build up the bag could pop off due to air pressure. But this is a good option if you dont have a lot of output and want a bag that doesnt poke out as far.
They also have close ended bags. This means after you have filled it, you throw away the bag also. These are not good for people with a lot of output, due to the fact that youd be going through a lot of bags.
Other convatec products I use are their sensi-care sting free skin barrier whipes order number 413501. I use that with Adapts stoma powder to put on my skin when it needs help healing under the base. It creates a seal over raw skin so it can heal but also allows the bag to stick. I also use their sting free adhesive releaser order number 420798. Note their products are non-alcohol so they wont sting if your skin is in rough shape. Its like a small hair spray you spray on to help the base come off easier while changing it. I also like their convatec tail closure if youre going that route.
Coloplast: rate:2/5 stars.
I give them a 2 out of 5 because their barriers dont stick to my skin. They slide off. Theyre like a silicone material whereas the other brands are like band aid material.
I tried the sensura mio click standard wear barrier, convex light in red.  Order number: A4373. Convex means the center dips down. This is good for people whos stoma tend to sink inward. It helps so that stool doesn't pool around your stoma. Also the material is water proof so if it sticks to you, it might be your favorite brand.
As for the bag I got a sensura mio flex easiclose wide drainable pouch. Order number: 12274. Of course it didnt come in opaque wothout a filter but its hard to find everything you want in one bag. I do have to say I liked the way the end closes and the bag fabric itself is soft.
Also from coloplast ive used their brava elastic barrier strips for additional support around the base of the bag but it irritated my skin. The brava paste is an ok product to use instead of a ring for a better seal but the product is a small amount. I also use their foaming body wash to clean around my stoma. It is not in the Edgepark  catelog but plain Ivory soap also works great. Anyother soap will leave a film behind, keeping your bag from sticking.
HOLLISTER: rate:5/5 stars
It took a little trial and error but hollister is where Ive found peace. I use the New image flextend extended wear flat skin barrier red order number 14603 with
A 12" new image lock and roll microseal closure drainable pouch without filter with belt tab in beige order number 18113. I love this bag because it sticks, the belt tabs make it quick and easy to vent gas out of the top in a clean way, doesnt have a leaky filter and the bottom rolls up tight without a clamp. I also like Hollister because if im going to the beach and want to swap to a 7inch bag I can do so easy. That order number is 18283. Other hollister products ive used are their adapt slim barrier rings order number:7815. The adapt paste order number: 79300 works better for me than the rings and doesnt sting. Plus its a lot bigger than bravas' brand.
Well there you go thats my review. Hope it was insightful. Dont be afraid to try something new! You can also go online and look at all the edgepark products. There are many more options if these dont work for you.
